I make art for the games I actually play.

And now you can play with it, too.

If you see a set, it’s because me or one of my crew of rotating co-DMs needed it. Since my first time playing RPGs as a nerdy teenager (an upsetting time ago), I’ve never put down either my dice or my pencil. Somebody plays with almost all of the art I create in the games I run and the games I “just” participate in, and every sprite, map and illustration is created to help my groups and others tell their stories. All of my maps are made to be used; modified, scribbled on, flipped, re-labelled and re-purposed and in some cases burned to the ground.

I never intended to sell any of it, but after running a sprawling years-long campaign, my group egged me into giving the Roll20 Marketplace a try. Now it’s pretty much how I spend all of my free time.

I tend to play D&D (5E, though 3.5 is forever in my heart), Shadowrun, World of Darkness, Blades in the Dark, Savage Worlds, Dungeon World, Deadlands, Numenera and anything else anyone wants to teach me.

Feel free to PM me or email brassbadgerworkshop(at)gmail(dot)com. Follow me on Twitter @BrassBadger for the occasional sneak peeks, polls on what packs I should create next, corgi pictures, and if we're honest, lots of yelling about hockey.

Bio

I am an illustrator and artist that has made art in a variety of formats, from traditional media to mobile phones. In the past, I’ve worked with Wizards of the Coast, Roll20, EA Sports, Hasbro, Universal Pictures and plenty of smaller publishers. I live in Las Vegas and have two of the best dogs in the universe. They are fat.

FAQs

Do you have any plans for a Patreon or other subscription model?

Yes! You can click here to become a patron!

How am I supposed to use these packs in a VTT?

I strongly recommend using an image editor such as Photoshop or GIMP to create a flattened jpg “base” image at 140x140 px per grid square to create most backgrounds.

If you need editable/changeable elements like trapdoors or bloody swaths, set them as the GM layer in Roll20 or similar layers, and hide them from your players til the right moment. This will optimize the number of “images” your poor, poor, outdated browser needs to contend with as it loads images for all of your players. (It otherwise sees ever single .png as a new image to load, and thus, takes a whole lot longer.)

I disagree with your use of the oxford comma in your titles!

Cool.

What do you mean by “for personal use”? What am I not allowed to do with this stuff?

When you download a set you can feel free to:

  • Download and use the set for as long as you like.

  • Print and play on your home table.

  • Load it into any VTT of your choice to play away.

  • Stream those VTT or tabletop games on Twitch, Youtube, or similar. (And if you let me know about them, I’ll probably boost your stream!) I’d really appreciate it if you gave me some form of attribution in the stream, either in the form of a verbal shoutout or a link in the comments or notes, but it’s not required for just using my assets as they are meant to be used!

  • Use footage from said stream containing images from this site in materials such as thumbnails, banners, stills, etc to promote the stream, as long as the artist is clearly attributed.

  • Use of any of the images on this site, in part or in whole, for non-commercial, personal use campaign material, stories, essays, or articles. If you publish those stories or articles, attribution would be super cool, as it helps me make more art.

  • Use any of the images on this site in DMs Guild, Roll20 modules, or similar products, with prior written consent and artist attribution. Just send me an email.

You may Not:

  • Redistribute or resell, in part or in whole, any of the images on this site.

  • Upload images or assets to any VTT, art repo or similar service for resale, sharing, or redistribution.

  • Use in any manner at any “Print-On-Demand” service, including but not limited to; Redbubble, Zazzle, or similar, for personal use or for distribution, resale, or creation of any products such as t-shirts, bags, posters, prints, books, phone cases, magnets, standees, or any other product.

  • Include graphics or assets, in any form, in any commercial product, such as, but not limited to; books, modules, magazines, art collections, video games, mobile video games, shirts, hats, play mats, or similar.

So, it’s cool if I give a copy to my DM and a party member, but not if I repost the whole thing as an album on Reddit or Imgur?

Yeah, pretty much.

Please feel free to share purchased or Patreon sets with your DM and gaming group, (and point them this way if they like it), but you may not mass distribute, reproduce, mass post, redistribute, print for distribution, or repackage for any reason, personal or commercial.

Do you offer commercial licenses?

Yes, on a case by case basis. Contact me for more information!

Do you take exclusive commercial commissions, or will you sell exclusive rights to any set of artwork?

Yes. Please contact me with the specifics of your project.

I’m making a video game, and your art looks a lot like game sprites! If I buy the pack can I use it as is for my Steam Game!?

No.

Let me explain. This is considered commercial use if you intend to sell that game, and even if you don’t, I must unfortunately promise you’ll have real bad time trying to make this into game art. How do I know? I’ve been making mobile and video games for about 10 years now and I would be super bummed if someone gave me this to work with as sprites.

It looks similar to sprites because that’s how I’ve learned to build a “level”, but it’s not quite “there”. The art packs currently available are optimized to work in browsers and VTTs, NOT game engines like Unreal or Unity. Trying to make these sprites work in Unity would be like trying to make pasta in a cheese grater. You can do it, sure, but now you have a mess and how are you gonna put your mozz on that sloppy disaster!? I have made, and can make plenty of video games, and if you’d like to hire me to make art for your video game, send me an email, but please don’t use existing art packs for your game. I don’t want to do that to you. You’ll be mad at me, I’ll be annoyed you didn’t listen, no one will have fun.

What can I do with a commercial license?

  • Publish for-sale VTT, DMs guild, digital or print adventures using Brass Badger Workshop Art.

  • Use workshop art to promote your book, magazine, module, video game, mobile game, or other media.

  • Use Workshop art as illustrations, key art, or assets in books, magazines, modules, video games, mobile games, or other media.

What can’t I do with a commercial license?

  • Resell or redistribute the images on this site as just the art.

  • Resell or redistribute the images on this site as print-on-demand products such as posters, mugs, phone cases, or etsy products.

  • Use images from this website to advocate violence, racism, sexism, or any narrative intended to abuse any group of people. That’s not why I do this, and that’s just rude.

Refunds, Returns, Exchanges, Cancellations, and Limitations of Liability.

I cannot offer Refunds, Returns, Exchanges, or Cancellations.

I am just a person, and currently all of our products are downloaded, ephemeral internet things. I have no way of reclaiming, returning, exchanging or cancelling the product, and so this is something I just don’t have the capacity to do right now. All products are clearly described and labeled, and the user buys or supports at his own risk.

Bugs happen, however, so if you find a door that doesn’t line up or a stone tile that seems to be an odd color from all the others, I am happy to make a reasonable effort to fix a file if you’re the first one to spot a bug. Performing these fixes remains at the sole discretion of Brass Badger Workshop LLC, but please email me with any such issues if they come up.
